BTEC Extended Diploma in Business

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business is an Applied General qualification.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas are a vocational qualification, which holds the learner at the centre, via a flexible, unit-based structure and use of project-based assessments. Students develop their practical, interpersonal and thinking skills, resulting in students ready to embrace a successful future – be that an apprenticeship, work or university. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning. It is equivalent in size to three A Levels and has been designed as a full two-year programme.

Learners who wish to take this qualification will have successfully completed a Level 2 programme of learning with GCSEs or vocational qualifications. The qualification aims to provide a wide-ranging study of the sector. It is primarily designed for learners studying full time in the 16–19 age group, who wish to pursue a career in business, primarily via higher education to access graduate entry employment with businesses, or alternatively through junior business employment. Students who complete this course will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in a business environment in working life, for example:

  • The ability to learn independently
  • The ability to research actively and systematically
  • The ability to give coherent and confident presentations
  • The ability to both lead and act as an effective team member
  • Skills in writing reports, analysing data and creative development

Following completion of this course, students may progress to further vocational qualifications such as BTEC Higher Nationals, or degree courses in relevant areas such as BSc (Hons) Business and Management, BSc (Hons) International Management or BSc (Hons) Marketig.
